Ravalomanana , who lives in exile in South Africa , was sentenced Saturday in absentia by the ordinary criminal court in Antananarivo for his role in the massacre of February 7, 2009 .
That day , the presidential guard had fired without warning on a crowd that was heading towards the palace housing the offices of President Ravalomanana in the center of the capital, killing at least thirty people dead and over a hundred injured .
“This will not facilitate the process of crisis , ” said a Western diplomat in Antananarivo on condition of anonymity .
“I am puzzled about the telescoping of the trial, which deserves further investigation, and political meetings on managing the transition, ” he adds , noting the timeliness of hearings that lasted two days .
Ravalomanana , has asked South Africa by AFP , said aside a verdict “stupid , ridiculous. ”
He denounced a political trial whose purpose , he said , of ” prevent ( to ) submit to the next presidential election ” and “disturb the ongoing talks at this time in Madagascar ” .
“It will complicate the resolution of the crisis. How can we continue to discuss? “asked Fetison Andrianirina , Head of Delegation of the political negotiations Ravalomanana in Madagascar .
” It is a stop villain whom we do not particularly important , ” he told AFP .
